Metro: Muslim students petition Ambode over cult attack on LASPOTECH students

The petition, which was signed by the president of the MSSN, Lagos State, Saheed Ashafa, sought for an investigation into the attack and urged the governor to ensure that culprits were punished.

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), last week petitioned the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, over a recent attack unleashed on some students of the Lagos State Polytechnic by suspected cult members.

The petition, which was signed by the president of the MSSN, Lagos State, Saheed Ashafa, sought for an investigation into the attack and urged the governor to ensure that culprits were punished.

“Around 9:20p.m. on Monday, cultists came in their multitude to one of the hostels inhabited by our members with the pretext of searching for a lost item. Upon entering, they attacked residents with various weapons thereby inflicting on them severe injuries that could lead to death,” he said.

In the same vein, residents of Apapa have called on the state government to beef up security measures in the area owing to the increased activities of cult members. In recent days, residents have been experiencing repeated unrest by some group of young boys alleged to be cultists.

According to a source, “around 9:00p.m. on Monday, some group of boys numbering about 30, came into Apapa road with ammunitions disturbing the peace. They scared off residents with empty bottles and cutlasses, daring anyone to come and confront them, while they embarked on a looting spree.

“Such incidents have been occurring in the area, causing residents to live in fear, especially after sunset. We are bringing this to the attention of the governor to arrest the situation before something ugly happens,” he said.

Another resident named Mrs. Vero Chiazo, told The Guardian that the cultists were looking for the killer of one of their members who was killed last month. “They are on a revenge mission, but the problem is instead of attacking their presumed opponents, they are attacking innocent and looting from residents.”
