Man abducts worshipper during church vigil, rapes her

Man abducts worshipper during church vigil, rapes her

A self-acclaimed apostle has been arrested by the police for the alleged abduction and rape of a 21-year-old woman, Esther, in Ibusa, Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The suspect, identified simply as Paul, had allegedly held the victim captive in his shop for about one week, before he was caught on Thursday.

It was learnt that Paul, who founded the defunct Paul Zion Deliverance Ministry, Asaba, sold scriptural items in the shop, which was opposite a parish of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel) on Ibusa Road.

Esther had attended a vigil at the Living Faith Church with her family members on Friday, January 12, when Paul allegedly hypnotised and abducted her.

It was gathered that the family members searched for her around the church after the vigil to no avail.

They subsequently reported a case of missing person at the A Division of the Delta State Police Command, while the church prayed for her safe return.

A friend of the victim’s brother had reportedly gone to buy something at Paul’s shop on Thursday when he sighted her and informed the family.

Esther’s elder brother told PUNCH Metro that some church workers apprehended the suspect and held him until the police arrived.

The brother, who did not want his name in print, said, “We went for a vigil at our church on Friday, January 12. We could not find her after the service. My sister is a special child. She had convulsion while she was young and it affected her. She can’t read and write.

“Someone saw her at the man’s shop on Thursday and raised the alarm. When we got there, we discovered that the man had bought new clothes for her. She had been hypnotised and refused to follow us. Later, she said the man made her to swear with a Bible that she would not leave him and that if she did, she would die. He should be in his 50s.

“We learnt that he chased away his wife and children a long time ago. He sells souvenirs outside the church (Winners Chapel). The church does not have anything to do with him.”

He said Esther was taken to the police clinic at Asaba, where a test carried out on her confirmed that she was raped.

He added that the medical report would be handed over to the police on Monday (today).

“He calls himself an apostle. We learnt that his church was closed down. We have options to either drop the case or take him to court. For some reasons, we will not drop the case,” he added.

The medical report, which, indicated that the victim tested positive for “smothered labia majora/minora.”

The coordinator of a rights group, Behind Bars Initiative, Harrison Gwamnishu, said the organisation was closely following the case.

He said Paul attempted to flee when he noticed that luck had run out on him.

Gwamnishu said, “A woman contacted my organisation and linked me up with the brother of the victim. When we got to the man’s shop, the victim was following him around. He has a mattress inside the shop. On our way to the police station, he said God told him to get married to a lady and he felt he could marry her. I called the Investigating Police Officer today (Sunday) to know if she was at the station so I could bring the medical report. But she did not pick her calls.”

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, said the police had commenced investigation into the matter, adding that the command had yet to establish the rape allegation.

He said, “We are investigating a case of abduction. The victim is suspected to be physically challenged.

“The so called pastor is not a pastor. He has a history of mental illness. Be that as it may, it is not for the police to establish who is mad or not. The appropriate authorities will take care of that. It is case of abduction, which we may have to charge to court.”

13 children chained for months in U.S

13 children chained for months in U.S

California prosecutors have detailed allegations of horrific abuse by parents of 13 children held in shackles at their home.

David Turpin, 56, and Louise Turpin, 49, face charges of torture, abuse and false imprisonment, Riverside County district attorney Mike Hestrin told journalists on Thursday.

The BBC reports they are due to appear in court to be formally charged.

Mr. Hestrin said all 13 of the couple’s children were severely malnourished.

He said the teenager who fled from the house earlier this week to raise the alarm had planned the escape with her siblings for two years.

She escaped through a window with a sibling, who then became afraid and returned to the house, he added.

The couple’s children, who are aged between two and 29, have been treated in hospital since being freed.

Suspected kidnapper dies in police custody

Customs operatives shoot, injure pregnant woman in Ogun

Customs operatives shoot, injure pregnant woman in Ogun
The operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service reportedly shot and injured a pregnant woman identified as Bukola Olugunna, at Iyana Iyesi, in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Olugunna, who is carrying an eight-month pregnancy, was allegedly shot by the NCS Operatives attached to the Federal Operation Unit, Ikeja, around 7.45am while on her way to the office.

She is a member of staff of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.

This incident was happening less than 24 hours after Customs operatives allegedly killed one person and injured three others on Wednesday at Abule Egba, in Lagos while in pursuit of the vehicle believed to be conveying smuggled bags of rice.

An eyewitness said the woman was hit by stray bullets on her back and the left side of her body.

He explained that the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, he, however, said he could not ascertain whether the woman survived the gunshot wounds or not.

The source, further, hinted that the customs officials who shot the pregnant woman were later arrested by policemen attached to Onipanu Divisional headquarters, Ota, and were later taken to Sango police station.

When contacted, the spokesman of Customs FOU, Ikeja, Jerry Attah, said he was yet to confirm the incident.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Customs Area Command, Abdullahi Maiwada, confirmed the incident but said the woman was only ‘brushed by stray bullets’ and not hit.

He said Customs operatives were on the trail of a suspected smuggled vehicle and not rice as claimed, then they were mobbed by some ‘unpatriotic members of the public.’

He said, “The officers were on a trail of a suspected smuggled vehicle and in the process, they were mobbed by some unpatriotic members of the public.”

83-year-old virgin finds love, marries 90-year-old man

83-year-old virgin finds love, marries 90-year-old man

An 83-year-old virgin simply identified as Naom, finally finds love with a 90-year-old father of 10, known as Rwakaikara, as they exchanged their vows at St. James Cathedral, Kigorobya, Hoima District of Uganda.

The officiating minister, Bishop Kyamanywa, told the congregation that it is never too late when one follows the leading of God.

He also thanked the couple for waiting for their special day, UgandaBlizz reports.

He said the couple has challenged the young generation to also follow the way of God, stating that so far in his pastoral work, he has never wed a couple of this age and that this has been a blessing to him.

“It’s my first time since I started work as Bishop to wed an old virgin woman as Naom. This is amazing and the world will read and learn a lot about you,” he said.

Although Mr. Rwakaikara has 10 children and 40 grandchildren from his first (late) wife, his new wife Naom has never married before and doctors have confirmed she was still a first class virgin at 83 as of 24th December 2017.

Until her marriage, Naom was world’s oldest female virgin and has been receiving a lot of money from well-wishers to support her.

Islamic cleric arrested with human parts in Lagos

Islamic cleric arrested with human parts in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arrested an Islamic cleric, Alfa Kayode Abdul-Fatai in Alakuko area of the State for being in illegal possession of human parts including a female private organ.

The suspect, who was arrested at No. 4, Okedumola Street, Off Obadare area of Alakuko, was said to have also been caught with female heart and a female lap discovered in his room.

While confirming the arrest, Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, SP Chike Oti, said the Islamic cleric was arrested following a tip off and investigation by the officers in the command.

Oti said the suspect, during interrogation, revealed that the said human parts were given to him by an accomplice who has also been rounded up

According to Oti, the suspect and the accomplice would be charged to court at the end of investigation.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, particularly urged members of the public to be conscious of the activities of people living within their vicinity, and report any suspicious movement to law enforcement agencies.

”The CP urges members of the public to embark on ‘Operation Know Your Neighbour’, because the Alfa was staying in a compound without his neighbours knowing what he does for a living,” Oti said.

Lassa fever kills two doctors, nurse in Ebonyi

Lassa fever kills two doctors, nurse in Ebonyi

No fewer than two doctors and a nursing officer working at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki in Ebonyi State on Sunday reportedly died of Lassa fever infection.

Confirming the incident at a media conference on Monday, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, said the index patient who was afflicted with the Lassa disease and was operated upon survived and had been discharged from the hospital.

He said, “One of the deceased doctors was on rural outreach assignment at the Mater Hospital, Afikpo and had been sick for the past two weeks. Before he could come to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, it was already late,” he said.

“Early last week there were suspected cases of Lassa and yesterday being Sunday, my attention was drawn to it that a doctor died of suspected Lassa fever; we sent 12 samples to the Ebonyi State Virology Centre, Abakaliki, and four came out positive,” he said.

Umezuruike debunked reports that the victims were taken to the Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State for treatment rather than the Ebonyi State Virology Centre built by the state government.

“The victims were treated at FETHA, a facility the Ebonyi State Government donated to the virology centre to the management of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki,” he said.

The commissioner said the deceased nurse (whose name was not given) assisted in the operation of a patient, who was bleeding after undergoing local uvulectomy and was rushed to the hospital.

“The patient was treated by a team of medical doctors on December 29, 2017, shortly after, those that treated him became sick, not knowing that they had been infected with the Lassa fever disease,” Umezurike explained.

He said the ministry had commenced contact tracing in order to monitor those who had contacts with the late victims to ensure that no further deaths were recorded.

During a visit to the hospital by our source on Monday, members of staff were in a gloomy mood as they discussed the development.

A source, who spoke in confidence, gave the names of the victims as Dr. Abel Udoh, a native of Akwa Ibom State and Dr. Felix Ali who hailed from the Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Police dismiss three cops for reckless shooting

Police dismiss three cops for reckless shooting

The police in Lagos have dismissed two Sergeants and a Corporal attached to Amukoko Division for reckless use of firearms.

Sergeants Saturday Osaseri (25759), Segun Okun (359075) and Corporal Adekunle Oluwarotimi (496833) were dismissed after an orderly room trial convicted of breaching the Nigeria Police’ rules of engagement.

According to police spokesman, Chike Oti, a Superintendent (SP), the dismissed Non-commissioned Officers (NCOs) committed the offence on January 11, at about 9:30pm at Ifelodun Street, Amukoko.

Oti said they disproportionately responded with bullets fired from their weapons at some youths alleged to have hurled stones, sticks and bottles at them.

He said the actions of the dismissed NCOs led to the death of one of the youths, while another was injured.

Oti said: “They were arrested, detained and tried immediately on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi. The guilty verdict was passed on them by the adjudicating officer who considered that the officers did not appreciate the situation critically and ought not to have applied maximum force on the unruly youths.a

“The officers would be charged to court next week, while a duplicate copy of the casefile would be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

“Sequel to the above occurrence, the Commissioner of Police has directed all Area Commanders and DPOs in the state to warn their men against misapplication of force. He further warned that officers must abide by the Rules of Engagement (ROE) as stipulated in Force Order 237.”

Robbers seal 89-yr-old woman’s mouth with super glue to prevent her for shouting for help

Robbers seal 89-yr-old woman’s mouth with super glue to prevent her for shouting for help

Two suspects have been arrested by men of the Edo State Police Command for allegedly using super glue to seal the mouth of an 89 year woman, Imasogbonre Enahoro, to prevent her for shouting for help.

The suspects also allegedly glued the mouth of her daughter, Marylyn Ajibola, and proceeded to steal valuables and a Toyota Camry car from the victim’s’ residence at Igueben villagen, near Benin.

A third suspect is said to be on the run.

They allegedly stormed Madam Enahoro residence on November 20 and first tied up their victims.

But when mother and daughter kept shouting for help, the unwanted guests decided to use super glue to shut them up.

After searching the house and finding no money the robbers made away with a Toyota Camry car which they drove to Osun State.

Marylyn identified one of the suspects at the police headquarters as the person who slapped her mother and applied super glue to shut her mouth.

She said the incident happened at about 5pm and that it was her husband that eventually untied them on his return from work.

Kingsley, one of the suspects who claimed to be a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, said it was Tosin that brought the robbery plan.

“When we got to Mama’s place, she had no money to give to us. Two of us were outside and Tosin went inside. We found only N7,200 inside the car.

“I did not know that this Mama’s mouth was glued because I waited outside. We have not sold the car. Tosin said he wants to use the car but we told him there is no way we can stay with him in Osun State. I couldn’t stay in his father’s house without doing anything. The car is still in Osun State.”

Police Commissioner, Babatunde Kokumo, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Why I bit off my wife’s nose – Husband

Man ejected by landlady wins N20 millon lottery

Man ejected by landlady wins N20 millon lottery

Mr Sidney Osahon, 35, Engineer from Edo, who won the ‘Give ‘n’ Take N20 million’ National Jackpot Bonanza said, his landlady almost ejected his family hours before he won the lottery.

Osahon, who disclosed this at a news briefing organised by Give `n` Take National Lottery in Abuja, said he was threatened by his landlady on his way to claim the prize.

He said that his family was being threatened by his landlady before he received the call that changed his life.

He said, “My mother is still alive, my father passed on last year. So we couldn’t pay our rent and we were almost thrown out of our house.

“My landlady gave us quit notice. As I was coming out to claim my prize she sent a text message that she will soon be at the house to give me a show down.

Osahon revealed that he had been playing the Give `n` take National lottery from the beginning in June 2017, but just got lucky now.

“Last week Sunday while watching the jackpot, and I saw my ticket number, I was in tears, I told God that I was tired of embarrassment of rent and I am moving into my house.

“The interesting thing about this win is that there was another bonanza draw the first one, I did not win. But the person who won apparently did not show up to pick his ticket.

“What this means is that if the person had showed up, I wouldn’t have been the winner, but God just got it for me. Today I am twenty million naira richer.

“The whole thing is like a dream but I am living that dream. I say a big thank you to Give ‘n’ Take national lottery; they have changed my life for good. Now I am a landlord,” he said.

In his address, Jolly Enabulele, Managing Director, Give ‘n’ Take National Lottery, said the N20million lottery prize from available records is the biggest in the history of lottery in Nigeria

He added that a winner emerged for the N20 million bonanza of National Jackpot after 29 weekly Rollover.

“Today we are bold to inform you that so many millionaires have been made in this lofty venture of giving back to the society through lottery business and good courses.

He noted that the bonanza was done to reward the loyal players who trusted the brand and identified with it since its inception in June 2017.

“One of these millionaires is Mr Sidney Chukwuweike Osahon with ticket number 706431113814 that emerged the lucky winner of the whooping sum of N20 million National Jackpot Bonanza last week”, Enabulele said.

According to him, Osahon played the National Jackpot on 27th November, 2017 at 06:24:36 hours with the sum of 100 naira on our Web play and had his main National Jackpot stake numbers as 20-28-04-31-27 and Yobe state as his State Powerball.

He added that the National Jackpot Bonanza winner being unveiled today emerged after a total of over 17,300 tickets bought from 1st October 2017 to 7th January 2018.

The MD said that the electronic draw was televised on NTA, WAP TV and Greetings 105.7 FM including all our social media platforms.

He added that the cheque will be officially presented to him on Sunday, January 14 during the live National Jackpot Game show by the Director-General of National Lottery Regulatory Commission.
